Dear Residents,
We had our final marathon Council meeting last week, I will provide more details in the January newsletter. Members of Council were surprised and shocked of being informed of plans that the Province is implementing in the Langstaff area just before it went public. The Province has a plan to double the density and lower the number of jobs that the City had planned for in our secondary plan. Instead of 50 story buildings there will be 80 story buildings, number of units go from 10,000 to 20,000 units, yet the number of jobs will decrease. My understanding is that this is only a portion of the entire site. This will have a significant impact on the ability to build a livable, complete community that the City planned for. Recent article
A special DSC meeting was held this week to further discuss. Information can be found in the staff report under our development services committee AGENDA on December 21st.
I have included a short survey from the Affordable Housing Coalition of York Region. It would be appreciated if you could please find time to complete the survey.
For anyone that has left over yard waste, I have been advised that Miller will pick up yard waste bags at the same time as they pick up Xmas Trees in January. Please click HERE to confirm schedule.
I would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season and I am looking forward to hopefully what will be more normal times sooner rather than later.
Wishing you and your family, health, happiness, peace and prosperity in the coming New Year.

During snow storms, Markham’s Winter Maintenance INTERACTIVE MAP shows the progress of road and sidewalk plows in Markham. Residents can watch as snow clearing efforts start with primary roads and then move to secondary roads, local roads and sidewalks to help keep Markham moving. Markham is responsible for managing the services of Markham owned roads only. For details, visit the Markham website and to read our Winter Maintenance Newsletter |

Overnight Parking & Parking Permits
Effective November 15th, the maximum parking exemption to be given is one night at a time, weather permitting. All parking on all City streets is prohibited during snow clearing operations. Existing parking permits and overnight exemptions held by residents are not valid during snow clearing operations. Residents can expect snow clearing to begin at the start of any snowfall and continue for up to the next 24 hours.
No Parking On Street With Snow Removal
Between November 15 and April 15, you can only park on the ODD numbered side of the street (unless existing parking signs state otherwise). However, all parking (even permitted parking) on all streets is not allowed during a snowstorm or snow clearing operations (snow falling or up to 24 hours after). Our plows cannot effectively plow the streets when cars are on the road and can also make access by firefighters and emergency personnel very difficult.
You could receive a $150.00 ticket for interfering with our snow removal process.

Road Watch
Aggressive driving continues to be an issue across the GTA. Road Watch is a community driven program that provides residents with a means to report aggressive or unlawful driver behaviour. Speeding, unsafe lane changes, disobeying traffic lights and stop signs are some typical types of behaviors that qualify for a Road Watch submission.

Ice Rinks and Ponds
The City is constructing and will be maintaining five unrefrigerated ice rinks for residents. Locations are at Huntington Park, Victoria Square Park, Milliken Mills Park, Markham Museum, and Milne Dam Park. A flag system at each location will signal when the ice is safe to use. Onsite parking is available at all locations.
A friendly reminder to stay off Markham’s ponds, stormwater ponds and waterways as the ice is unsafe and not maintained for recreation purposes.
Stay safe and stay off natural ice.
