Councillor Karen Rea - December update
December 2020

Dear Residents,

As we approach the end of the year, I believe that we will all be glad to wave good bye to 2020 and it is with optmism that we can hope for a better 2021, at least towards the latter part of the year.

This week, you should receive my newsletter in your mailbox with more updates of what is happening in Ward 4 and I included my favorite recipe for this time of year - shortbread.

You can access the newsletter online or let me know if you wish to receive an extra hard copy.

Below you will find some additional information, such as latest Council meetings items, winter operations and more.

As always, please reach out to Mylene or myself with any questions and concerns.

We wish you a new year filled with good health, peace and happiness.

Please stay safe and stay healthy.

Regards,

Karen

Attack on Conservation Authority - Bill 229 - Schedule 6

Please see attached former Councillor Valerie Burke's article on the Provincial Bill 229.

The City of Markham and many other organizations expressed their concerns with the Bill 229 - schedule 6. This bill removed the power from the Conservation Authority, giving the Minister and developers more power in making decision on new projects in sensitive areas approved without proper consultation. The consequence of these new rules will be evident in the near future, when new applications start to be approved.

Contact your local MPP to hear their views on this matter and to express your concerns or clarify any questions you may have.

This assistance is by application only and is meant to aid residential and business property owners who require payment flexibility throughout the 2021 taxation year - markham.ca/TaxRelief. The Security Camera Registry gives members of the community the option to let York Regional Police know they have installed residential or commercial security cameras which may assist police if a crime occurs later in that area. The registry does not grant police direct access to your cameras--officers must still seek permission to view and use footage.
