Video - Spring preparations are well underway in Markham following one of the snowiest winters in nearly 80 years, with City Operations teams transitioning from historic snowfall response to full-scale spring maintenance. From repairing roads with the help of advanced AI technology to maintaining parks and trails, dedicated staff are working year-round to keep Markham safe, clean, and beautiful.

City of Markham Environmental Services will hold its annual compost giveaway over the first two weeks of May. Registration is scheduled to open on April 22, 2026 (Earth Day) at https://cityofmarkham.perfectmind.com/
Residents will need to register online to pick up two free bags of compost at one of the events listed below:

Electronics and batteries contain heavy metals that are harmful to the environment and are not accepted at the curb.

This year’s theme is Responsible Pet Ownership and Community Safety, with a focus on how we can work together to keep pets, people, and shared spaces safe. Upcoming road closure
CN will be completing bridge inspection and rehabilitation work as part of their regular inspection and maintenance program.
To complete this work, Bayview Avenue between Laureleaf Road and Barristers Court will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, April 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Beginning in spring 2026, construction will commence on a 2.8 kilometre section of the Markham Bullock Church Highway 7 Watermain, between Hawkridge Avenue and Ninth Line, in the City of Markham.
