Leaf & yard material is collected every other week, same day as your clear bag garbage.

City of Markham Environmental Services will hold its annual compost giveaway over the first two weeks of May. Registration is scheduled to open on April 22, 2026 (Earth Day) at https://cityofmarkham.perfectmind.com/

 

Residents will need to register online to pick up two free bags of compost at one of the events listed below:

Join us for the City of Markham’s Animal Services Roundtable on Monday, May 4 from 3 to 5 PM at the Markham Civic Centre!

This year’s theme is Responsible Pet Ownership and Community Safety, with a focus on how we can work together to keep pets, people, and shared spaces safe. We’ll talk about topics including pet licensing and by-law compliance; safe and responsible use of off-leash parks; wildlife interactions and prevention; and Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs).

Notice of Tree Removal, Road Widening and Improvements, Spring 2026 - 16th Ave. (Leslie St. to Kennedy Rd.)

 

York Region is widening and improving 16th Avenue from Leslie Street to Kennedy Road to accommodate growth and provide more travel options.

 

Only trees on York Region property are being removed. Tree removal will start in April 2026. Tree removals take place in early spring before birds make their nests, ensuring they aren’t disturbed. Tree work was planned in consultation with a certified arborist and complies with all local bylaws.

 

During construction, residents will see trucks and workers and may hear equipment like chainsaws and woodchippers. Work will take place during the daytime. Lane reductions may be required.

Notice of Construction, Markham Highway 7 Watermain Rehabilitation

 

Beginning in spring 2026, construction will commence on a 2.8 kilometre section of the Markham Bullock Church Highway 7 Watermain, between Hawkridge Avenue and Ninth Line, in the City of Markham.

 

This work is being led by York Region, as part of the Markham Highway 7 Watermain Rehabilitation project.

Notice of Temporary Lane Reductions: Donald Cousens Parkway – end of April to July 2026

 

The Regional Municipality of York is replacing soil and planting trees in the grass boulevard on Donald Cousens Parkway west of Country Glen Road as part of a low impact development pilot project. This project combines the benefits of street trees and stormwater management practices.

 

The road will be open during construction but temporary lane restrictions may be required
