Some businesses in Markham must legally have a licence to operate, posted where people can easily see it.

If not, fines or other penalties may apply. When customers see a licence, they’ll know the business is responsible and trustworthy.

To learn who requires a licence, how to apply for one, and more, visit http://markham.ca/BusinessLicensing.

Our Animal Services team recently got several calls from residents about an owl trapped in netting at a golf driving range, about 30 feet above the ground. When officers arrived, they could see the owl was in distress and needed help right away. They also knew they’d need some help to reach the owl.

Animal Services reached out to the local fire station. Markham Fire & Emergency Service responded right away and through their combined efforts, the two teams were able to safely rescue the owl. Once saved, the owl was taken to Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge. It’s expected to make a full recovery under their care.

Thank you to the concerned residents who took the time to report the situation, and to all the responders who worked together on this successful rescue!
