-City of Markham News-
Safe streets start with a vision. At the City of Markham, we believe that serious collisions are preventable, not inevitable. That’s why we’ve embraced Vision Zero—a data-driven approach that builds safety into every part of our road network.

From smarter intersection designs to community-wide education, we are building a transportation network where everyone can reach their destination safely.

Do you live in a heritage home, or operate a business in one of Markham’s Heritage Districts?

We are now accepting applications to the City’s Heritage Property Grant Program. The deadline to apply is April 3, 2026 Learn more at http://markham.ca/Heritage

Getting rid of an old toilet? Collected same day as Clear Bag Garbage

Placed neatly at the curb by 7 AM; no earlier than the night before

2-piece toilets must have the tank separated from the bowl for the health and safety of our collectors.

New safety measures are coming to 16th Avenue and Peter Street this spring.

To reduce traffic delays and collisions involving turning vehicles, we’re installing “Do Not Block Intersection” pavement markings and warning signs at the intersection. As part of York Region’s Vision Zero Traveller Safety Plan, these changes improve traffic flow and safety for all road users.
