City-wide Snow Windrow Clearing Service Survey:
During the winter season, our office received a number of complaints from residents about snow windrows left at the ends of driveways. At this time, the City only offers a Snow Windrow Removal Assistance Program for senior over 60 years old or individual who are unable to shovel snow.
In 2019, the City conducted a public survey through Your Voice Markham to ask residents whether windrow clearing should be provided city-wide, given the service limitations and associated costs. Of the 71 responses received, 40.8% were in favour, while 59.2% were opposed.*
As this feedback is now several years old, I'm launching a new survey here to gather updated input from residents. Please share your views so I can bring your feedback to the Council.

Daylight Savings is always a good time to test the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
If it needs replacing remember to recycle! Batteries are hazardous waste and can cause fires in waste and recycling trucks and at sorting facilities. Drop off your alkaline batteries at any Markham Recycling Depot.

The City of Markham has a Snow Windrow Removal Assistance Program to help eligible older adults (60 years or older), and individuals living with a disability maintain road access from their driveways during the winter.
One car-width of snow is removed from the end of the driveway on all roads once snow exceeds 7.5 cm. Windrows are cleared within 4 hours of road plowing completion. Windrows left from sidewalk plows are not included in this service.

Now is the time to prevent a basement flood by checking downspouts drain to your yard and nowhere else. Melting snow can enter the sewer through downspouts connected to the system when they should not be. This can overload the system and send sewage into your basement.
If your downspout goes directly into the ground, it may be connected to the sewer system. Disconnect Redirect Prevent backups Learn more at york.ca/CheckYourDrains |
