City-wide Snow Windrow Clearing Service Survey:

During the winter season, our office received a number of complaints from residents about snow windrows left at the ends of driveways. At this time, the City only offers a Snow Windrow Removal Assistance Program for senior over 60 years old or individual who are unable to shovel snow.

In 2019, the City conducted a public survey through Your Voice Markham to ask residents whether windrow clearing should be provided city-wide, given the service limitations and associated costs. Of the 71 responses received, 40.8% were in favour, while 59.2% were opposed.*

As this feedback is now several years old, I'm launching a new survey here to gather updated input from residents.
Please share your views so I can bring your feedback to the Council.

Let’s all remember to be kind to each other, and patient as our plows continue working to keep our roads clear and safe.

When you are clearing your driveway, please do not push or dump snow back onto the road.

When snow gets pushed onto streets that have already been plowed, it can:

- Force road crews to redo work, slowing down clean up for the entire community

- Create slippery, unsafe conditions for drivers

In an emergency, every second counts. If you have a fire hydrant near your home and are able, please:

- Remove any snow from the hydrant

- Clear enough to walk around it (about 1-meter)

- Clear a path from the hydrant to the street Removing snow from around a fire hydrant will help Markham’s firefighters access water quickly in case of a fire.

Keep Bins Back — Snowplows Need Space! Our Operations staff work around the clock to help keep our roads clear and safe.

1) Keep bins back from the street to make room for the snowplows and prevent possible container damage.

2) Shovel a flat, safe space for your bins. Materials placed on snowbanks will NOT be collected.

3) Put material out the morning of your collection day, not the night before.
