-City of Markham News-

Our road and sidewalk plow operators are still working around the clock to clear over 27 cm of snow!

Plows are focused on removing the remaining snow from primary and secondary roads and began working on local roads yesterday evening. Remember, with large amounts of snow, it can take multiple passes of a plow for snow to be cleared.

You can track our plows at http://markham.ca/Winter.

Due to the heavy snowfall and unsafe road conditions, we are experiencing service delays. Crews are attempting to collect from all scheduled households; ensure your waste material is visible and easily accessible. DO NOT PLACE ON SNOWBANKS.

Some Thursday collections may occur Friday, and some Friday collection may occur Saturday.

Always place bins back from the curb to allow plows to safely clear the roads without hitting your bins. Thank you for your patience! For all set out guidelines and safety tips, visit http://markham.ca/CurbsideCollection

Thank you for your patience.

Leaving pets outside for an extended period of time in Winter is dangerous. If it is too cold for you, it is likely too cold for them!

If your pet is outdoors, ensure they have an insulated shelter and water. If that’s not possible, they must stay indoors. http://markham.ca/AnimalServices

Be a good neighbour and love your hydrant! Help keep fire hydrants accessible, whether near your home or down the street. In an emergency, every second counts.
  • Remove any snow and ice from the hydrant
  • Clear enough to walk around it (about 1-meter)
  • Clear a path from the hydrant to the street
  • For more information, visit http://markham.ca/Water

Canada Post clears snow at Community Mailbox (CMB) sites once accumulation reaches 5 cm, completing work within 24 hours between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

They are responsible for clearing the area directly in front of the CMB and paved accessways, while municipalities or homeowners handle remaining sidewalks, and snowdrifts or plough-back are cleared within 24 hours of being reported.

Residents with concerns should contact Canada Post at 1-866-607-6301

Even small businesses face big challenges in Markham, small business leaders have relied on the guidance and expertise of Agnes Lan and the team at Change Connect to help deal with today’s challenges and plan for the future.

    -York Region News-

In 2024, following suggestions from residents, my office requested that the York Region Transportation review the intersection of Woodbine Avenue and Markland Street / Calvert Road for a left-turn signal.

After an on-site assessment, the department confirmed the need for a left-turn signal to reduce heavy left-turn queues. As of December 17, 2025, the left-turn signals at this intersection have been successfully installed for the northbound, southbound, and eastbound.

For suggestions regarding traffic signals on Regional roads, please contact my office at alan.ho@markham.ca

Keep your business safe this winter by limiting ice-related falls while protecting the environment. Before pouring winter salt on your parking lot, remember a little salt goes a long way.

Salt Smart by using one tablespoon of winter salt per square metre in temperatures between 0°C and -10°C. Use sand to provide traction, direct downspouts away from walkways and parking lots and shovel early and often.
