Changes are coming to the Blue Box program in the northern six (N6) York Region municipalities—Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Newmarket, and Whitchurch-Stouffville. Beginning January 1, these communities will transition to new Blue Box requirements, including cart-based collection and other service updates.

Please note that these changes do not apply to Markham, Vaughan, or Richmond Hill.

For Markham residents, all services will remain the same:
-Blue boxes will continue to be used (no carts)
-Weekly collection will continue on your current collection day
-Miller Waste will remain the service provider
-Small Change: All blue box-related inquiries must be made directly to Miller Waste, instead of Markham.

In recognition of National Housing Day on November 22, we are excited to share that York Region is getting ready to put shovels in the ground for the 62 Bayview (Town of Newmarket) and Box Grove (City of Markham) community housing developments with construction commencing soon.

Together, these community housing developments will create approximately 380 units of new purpose-built rental community housing. As we look ahead to the future, there are nearly 1,000 more units planned. The affordable housing units in each building will be filled by households on York Region’s centralized waitlist for subsidized housing, while the proposed market units will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Licensed home child care is safe, affordable and follows the same Ministry of Education licensing standards as other child care services.

Operators can care for infants, toddlers and pre-school aged children, as well as their siblings, and may offer full-day, extended and before / after school care.If your family is on a waitlist, or starting your search for child care services, visit york.ca/HomeChildCare to learn more about licensed home child care in York Region.

Did you know that falls are the leading cause of injury among older Canadians? Falls and fall-related injuries in older adults can be reduced by screening for modifiable risk factors every year or after a fall.
