Unlike leaf blowers, raking helps remove dead grass and improve airflow, helping to revitalize your lawn! Leaf blowers may be quicker, but they can scatter debris and disturb pollinators’ habitats.
Be a good neighbour and don’t throw leaves onto neighbouring houses or the road.

November is CPR Month – Be Ready to Save a Life!
Did you know nearly 60,000 Canadians suffer a cardiac arrest each year? It can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time—and most often, it happens at home, in front of family and friends.
That’s why learning CPR and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is so important. AEDs are small, easy-to-use devices that can restart a heart during cardiac arrest. They’re located throughout our community—in schools, sports facilities, government buildings and even private businesses.
AEDs walk you through every step, so anyone can use one in an emergency. When combined with CPR, they can increase survival by up to 75%! This CPR Month, take a few minutes to learn how you can help save a life.
Visit york.ca/CPR to get started. |

Since Daylight Savings Time ended, it’s getting dark earlier. Pedestrians, make sure you are seen! Wear bright or reflective clothing, avoid distractions and make eye contact with drivers when crossing the street. Be Visible. Be Seen.

Did you know? Every year, radon is responsible for more than 3,000 lung cancer deaths in Canada – and almost every home has some level of radon.
But here's the good news: you can take action to protect your family today! November is Radon Action Month, the perfect time to visit york.ca/Radon to learn more. |

Starting January 1, 2026, businesses and organizations that make, sell, distribute and import products and packaging will be fully responsible for the collection and recycling of the packaging and products they create. This means more items will be allowed in the blue box and the same items will be accepted across Ontario no matter where you live!
Markham will continue with weekly manual Blue Box collection provided by Miller Waste. There will be no changes to collection frequency or container type. Markham's collection method will remain the same.
