Doors Open Markham offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at select sites throughout Markham, including free access to buildings that typically charge admission. From cultural and heritage landmarks to innovative spaces, this is a unique opportunity to discover the stories and inspirations that have shaped our city. Doors Open Ontario is a provincewide heritage tourism program that provides free public access to unique and historically significant sites across Ontario. The City of Markham is proud to once again participate in this exciting event.

When tragedy struck and a mother opossum was hit by a car, our team at Markham Animal Services stepped in to help. Her babies were safely transported to Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge for rehabilitation and will be released back into the wild when they’re ready.

York Region crews clean stormwater oil and grit separators every year to help protect our rivers and lakes. These systems trap pollutants like oil, grease, heavy metals and debris, especially during rain events. Keep an eye out for crews working in your area this month as they complete this important maintenance.
