Family fireworks may only be set off on private property and with the homeowner’s consent.
Fireworks are not allowed on City property. This includes parks, fields and roads.
Permits are not required the day before Victoria Day and on Victoria Day, and the day before Canada Day and on Canada Day.
You will need a permit to set off fireworks on all other days. Under the Provincial Offences Act, violators may be fined up to $5,000.

Markham Animal Care Officers rescued an injured baby hawk found near Sherwood Forest Drive, which is a rare sight in our city! The young bird will now be taken to Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge, where it will be rehabilitated for a safe return to the wild.

Kennedy Rd. between Steeles Ave. and Denison St. will be temporarily closed from 10 a.m. on Friday, June 27 to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025 for the annual Taste of Asia Festival.

York Regional Transit (YRT) News:
- With the end of the 2024-2025 academic year, all 400-series School Special routes will be suspended for the summer.
- On July 1, YRT fares are increasing by 3%. Fare changes help cover rising operating costs, delivering service to the Region and investments in initiatives to improve service for travellers. Visit http://yrt.ca/FareChanges to learn more.
- Effective Sunday, June 29, the afternoon trip for Route 305 – Box Grove Express will depart from Platform 11 instead of Platform 12 at Finch GO Bus Terminal.
- Beginning Sunday, June 29, late night service for Route 98/99 – Yonge Street will be adjusted. The last northbound trip departing Finch GO Bus Terminal will depart at 2:40 a.m. instead of 2:33 a.m.
- Beginning Sunday, June 29, schedules for Route 24 – Woodbine and Route 40 – Unionville will be adjusted to meet changing customer demand and traffic conditions.
- Beginning Sunday, June 29, weekend service will be introduced for Route 9 – Ninth Line as a part of a one-year trial to meet changing customer demand.
- Effective Sunday, June 29, schedules for Route 3 – Thornhill, will be
- adjusted to meet changing customer demand and traffic conditions.
- Beginning June 29, schedules for Viva blue, Viva purple and Viva orange will be adjusted to meet changing customer demand and traffic conditions.

Route 8 will be on detour from June 27, 10 a.m. to June 29, 11:59 p.m. at Kennedy Road from Clayton Drive to Steeles Avenue due to the Taste of Asia Festival.
