I’m grateful to have co-organized the "Civic Centre Meeting: Stop Crimes. Safer Community, Review The Canadian Criminal Code and Bail System Petition" alongside Cathy Ru, President of the Markham Community Alliance, and Mayor Frank Scarpitti.

The petition, which collected over 5,500 signatures, reflects growing concerns in the community about issues such as car theft and break-ins, which have been on the rise.

The meeting served as an important opportunity to bring these concerns to federal and provincial elected representatives. A special thank you to York Regional Police officials—Deputy Chief Paulo Da Silva, Superintendent Sony Dosanjh, Inspector Brad Weick, and Inspector Mike Elliott—along with criminal defence lawyer Lambart Kwok, who joined us to share valuable insights into the current bail system and criminal trends.

On October 28, 2024, Mayor Frank Scarpitti presented the 2025 City of Markham Budget.

The new westbound protected left turn signal has been installed and will be activated in the coming weeks at Highway 7 and Kennedy Road.

The new signal gives motorists the right of way when making left turns and protects pedestrians when crossing the street from left turning vehicles. These measures will help improve safety and traffic flow at this intersection.

For general inquiries, please contact Public Works at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 75000 or via email at transportation@york.ca.

Extension of the temporary turn restrictions at the intersection of Yonge Street and John Street until Saturday, November 30, 2024.

An extension is required due to onsite challenges with completing hydro work for the Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE) project.

Southbound and westbound left turn restrictions will continue daily Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. These restrictions are required to accommodate lane closures for hydro work led by the Region’s contractor.

As with all road construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather or to accommodate other work underway in the area. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.

For general inquiries, please contact Public Works at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 75000 or via email at transportation@york.ca.
