This year we celebrate the orchestra’s 100th anniversary and the 230th anniversary of the William Berczy Settlement in Markham. Thank you to the Knabenkapelle Nördlingen orchestra band for an outstanding performance!

York Regional Police (YRP) News:

 

1. Two suspects are being sought following a vehicle arson in Markham. Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., a homeowner called to report that his vehicle was intentionally set on fire in his driveway, in the area of Edgar Avenue and Yonge Street.

 

The victim was able to extinguish the fire before Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services arrived. Video from the area shows two suspects arrive in a black Ford Expedition sports utility van (SUV) and approach the home on foot.

 

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7241, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at http://1800222tips.com.

 

 

2. Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are appealing for witnesses and seeking suspects following a home invasion in the City of Markham.

 

On September 5, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m., police were called to a residence in the area of The Bridle Walk and Castlemore Avenue for a home invasion.

3. With Operation ABC ongoing, we are taking a moment to highlight an incident that occurred in a school zone during our enforcement.

 

 Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are appealing for additional witnesses after a driver was charged for Dangerous Operation while in a City of Markham school zone.

 

On Thursday, September 5, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a Crime Prevention officer was conducting Operation ABC (Always Be Careful) back-to-school enforcement in the area of Russell Jarvis and Rouge Bank Drives.

 

The suspect was observed by the officer driving in a dangerous manner, committing numerous traffic offences and driving on the sidewalk. Additional units were called to the area and the suspect was taken into custody.
