Compost Giveaway 2024

Starting from today (April 22), residents are invited to register online to pick-up two free bags of compost at one of the events listed below:

 

Wednesday May 1st

Angus Glen Community Centre (North Parking Lot), 8:00am to 4:00pm

 

Friday May 3rd

Thornhill Community Centre (North Parking Lot), 8:00am to 4:00pm

 

Saturday May 4th

8100 Warden Avenue (Parking Lot), 8:00am to 4:00pm

 

Wednesday May 8th

Angus Glen Community Centre (North Parking Lot) 8:00am to 4:00pm

 

Friday May 10th

Thornhill Community Centre (North Parking Lot) 8:00am to 4:00pm

 

Saturday May 11th

How to Register Online for Compost Giveaway – Starting TODAY

  1. Create an account in Markham’s Program Registration and Facility Booking system at markham.ca/RegisterNow
    1. On this site, you’ll find step-by-step instructions on how to create an account and access to the new system
  2. Log into the system with your email and password
    1. Go to the Programs & Activities tab and select Special Events;
    2. Choose a pickup date and location. Spaces are limited and distributed on a first come, first serve basis; no payment required
  3. Once you have registered, you will receive a Booking Confirmation email with Registration Confirmation attached. You will need this email when picking up the compost

  4. If you miss your registration pickup date, you must register again for another date, subject to availability

 

What You Need to Know Before You Go

  • Must register prior to arrival – maximum one (1) registration per household

  • Bring proof of registration with you for pickup

  • Two (2) bags ONLY per registration, while supplies last

  • Compost is available for Markham residents only – not for commercial use

  • Pickup events are rain or shine
Markham Celebrates Earth Month!  

The City of Markham marked Earth Day this year with a vibrant celebration on April 20 at Markham Centre, right in Downtown Markham. As the Vice-Chair of the City's Environment and Sustainability Committee, Councillor Lau took center stage as the emcee, adding to the excitement of the event. Open to all ages, this free gathering offered a mix of fun and educational activities centered around environmental initiatives.

We received an A- grade, making us the only Ontario municipality to achieve this mark, placing us in the top 5 of 32 major Canadian municipalities that were included in their report.

This is the fourth consecutive time we have earned this A- grade.
