Dear Ward 2 residents,

Happy New Year! I would like to express my gratitude to every resident and volunteer who helped me serve our residents in the past year. I also appreciate those who came to me with challenging tasks, and gave me important feedback about the community so I can  work harder and smarter for you in the coming year. I had a lot of fun hosting our first community party and I look forward to arranging more community events for you in the new year. Please stay safe and warm as we expect the weather to get colder very soon. I wish you to have all the energy and confidence to achieve everything you want in 2024! Happy New Year!

An important announcement as my Executive Assistant Kelly Tong will pursue her passion in the coming year and has officially left her position yesterday on new year's eve. Natalie Tang will officially take over the role of the executive assistant of my office starting on Jan 2nd, 2024. I look forward to be working with her to provide you with excellent services starting in the new year and I will provide you with her contact information in the next e-newsletter and the upcoming physical newsletter that will be mailed to all Ward 2 residents in February.

Best regards,

Councillor Ritch Lau

York Region moves ahead with $4.2 billion 2024 budget

York Regional Council approved the $4.2 billion budget for 2024, which includes a tax levy increase of 2.75% and a 1% Rapid Transit / Infrastructure levy. Regional Council also endorsed the outlook for the remaining two years of the current multi-year budget: 2.60% and a continuation of the 1% Rapid Transit / Infrastructure levy in both 2025 and 2026.

The $4.2 billion budget is comprised of $3.2 billion in operating costs and $1 billion in capital expenditures, with 82 cents of every Regional property tax dollar funding program and service delivery.

York Region's multi-year budget aligns with the Region’s Strategic Plan, emphasizing priorities during Council's four-year term. The budget supports these priorities, with each department using it to guide spending.
